What’s whois?

Whois is a common term for domain name searches on the internet and refers to the question”Who is?”

DK Hostmaster administers a record of .dk domain names and so supplies a whois service for Danish domain names.

A search in our database yields information on the domain name:

Availability status
Date of enrollment
Name, address and user ID of this registrant
Name, address and user ID of this proxy
Name servers

If you have name and address protection in the Danish National Register of Persons, you’ll also be anonymous from the whois database.

What information can I find in the WHOIS?

If you would like to look up info on a domain, you can use our WHOIS Lookup page. Here you may also fill out a form to contact the owner of any domain that is hosted with us. Of course, it’s up to the owner to choose if they wish to respond to your inquiry.

How do I update my contact information or nameservers on a domain name?

You can use the DreamHost panel to update or modify the domain contact details which are publicly available using a WHOIS lookup.

To make changes to those particulars:

1. Go to the Registrations page.

You can change the contact information on a single domainname, or over a few domains simultaneously. If you do opt to modify details on several domains at precisely the exact same time, you can do it in groups of domains with the same expansion. By way of example, you can upgrade the contact information of any .com domains all in precisely the exact same time, by clicking the checkboxes to the right of .com domains you would like to alter.

2. Once you have chosen which domain(s) to alter on this page, click the Modify Whois! Button that appears in the bottom of the list.

3. Update all of the fields that you want to modify.

You could even choose to update all of contacts simultaneously (Registrant, Admin, Technical and Billing contacts), or apply WHOIS privacy if that is available for your domain name type.

If you don’t see your domain name in this list, the domain name is either registered with a different provider or under a different DreamHost account.

When you make changes to your contact information, they’ll be updated in the national registry within 30-60 minutes.

4. To alter your nameservers on a domainname, click on the”Nameservers” tab, then choose the radio button to use DreamHost’s nameservers or a different host’s nameservers.

5. Replace the default nameservers together with another host’s nameservers, then click on the Save Nameservers button store your changes.

Review the Nameservers article for further information.
Your new nameservers will be put at the registry within 30-60 minutes, but can take up to 72 hours to update around the world. This is normal and is due to DNS propagation time.
You can read more about this at the DNS propagation article.
